About .22-250 Remington Ammunition
The .22-250 started as a wildcat in the 1930s, based on the .250 Savage case, and Remington made it a factory cartridge in 1965. It has been a varmint hunter's favorite ever since thanks to its speed and accuracy.
Most loads use 40 to 55 grain bullets. Light polymer-tipped bullets give explosive expansion on small varmints, while 55 grain soft points add a bit more penetration for coyotes and foxes.
The high velocity means less holdover at long range, but it also wears barrels faster than milder cartridges. If you hunt varmints at distance, .22-250 makes hits easier. Buy the load your rifle groups best and stock up.
