The .450 Bushmaster was developed by Tim LeGendre and brought to market by Bushmaster and Hornady in 2007. It was designed to give the AR-15 a big-bore hunting cartridge, and it gained huge popularity when several Midwest states allowed straight-wall cartridges for deer.
The standard load is a 250 grain polymer-tipped bullet such as the Hornady FTX, built for rapid expansion on deer. Heavier 260 to 300 grain bullets add penetration for larger game.
