6.5 Grendel brings long-range accuracy to the AR-15. It fires efficient 6.5mm bullets that retain energy and resist wind much better than 5.56, making it a favorite for hunting and steel shooting past 500 yards. At Gunners Outlet we carry 6.5 Grendel ammunition from 120 to 123 grains from Hornady and Prvi Partizan. Order online and we ship fast from our New Hampshire warehouse. Each product lists its price per round, so comparing value is simple.
About 6.5 Grendel Ammunition
Bill Alexander of Alexander Arms and Arne Brennan developed the 6.5 Grendel in 2003. It uses a wide, short case that fits AR-15 magazines and bolts with minor changes, giving the platform a cartridge with excellent ballistic coefficients.
Most 6.5 Grendel loads use 120 to 130 grain bullets. Hollow points and polymer-tipped hunting bullets work well on deer and hogs, while match bullets excel at long range.
The Grendel fits between 5.56 and the 6.5 Creedmoor in performance: more energy than 5.56 with light recoil, in a lighter rifle than an AR-10. Find a load your rifle shoots well and buy it in quantity.
Converting an AR-15 to 6.5 Grendel
Running 6.5 Grendel in an AR-15 requires a matching barrel, a bolt with a larger face and Grendel-specific magazines. Many shooters buy a complete upper, which makes the switch quick and easy. Bolt-action rifles like the Howa 1500 and Ruger American Ranch are also chambered for it.
